Title I at Ira B. Jones Elementary
Ira B Jones Elementary is a Title 1 School. Title I is part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and ensures that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency in challenging North Carolina academic achievement standards and state academic assessments. Title I is a federally funded program designed to provide financial assistance to schools with high numbers of children from low-income families. Ira B. Jones Elementary School is a School-Wide Title I school. In order to qualify for this level of funding, we must have at least 40% of our school population participating in the Free/Reduced Lunch Program.
The 1994 reauthorization of Title I shifted the program's emphasis from remedial education to helping all disadvantaged children reach rigorous state academic standards expected of all children. Title I funds can be used for instructional activities, counseling, parental involvement, and program improvement. In return, school districts and states must meet accountability requirements for raising student performance.
